When deciding between adopting a dog and buying a dog, the primary difference is the source of the animal: adopting means getting a dog from a shelter or rescue organization, while buying a dog means purchasing one from a breeder or pet store with the key distinction being that adopting typically provides a second chance to a dog in need, often at a significantly lower cost and potentially with a more established personality, while buying allows for more control over breed and lineage, but could inadvertently support puppy mills if not done carefully with a reputable breeder.
